What is a crown ?
Crown
in a simple term
nothing other than a cap.. It
involves removing tooth structure all around tooth and covered with
this cap.
It is used to protect and restore tooth which has lost tooth structure
as a
result of decay. It is also used to reinforce tooth when it is heavily
filled (
restored) . It is also used to straighten rotated teeth to change shape
and
size of tooth.
Crowns
are made up of
Gold, Ceramic ( porcelain) and
porcelaine fused to metal. Full ceramics crowns are generally used for
the
front of the mouth because their ability to reflact and transmit light
similarly to that of natural tooth structure.
What is a veneer?
Veneers
are thin shells of
porcelain normally placed
(cemented-bonded) to the underlying tooth structure. They change shape,
size
and shade of the tooth. Normally it involves removing small amount of
tooth
structure. Their
beauty comes from their
ability to reflect light in the same manner as natural tooth.
What is an inlay/onlay?
These
are ceramic
restoration used to replace your silver
fillings when they exceed certain size. They are bonded to the tooth
just like
veneers.
What is a gum lift?
It
is a procedure by which gum
position is moved up to
expose more tooth structure. It changes proportion of tooth displayed.
